March Sundries! - 2009-04-02

Dear Friends:

The Ladies' Luncheon was a success!  A good time was had by all, contributing to the Covenant House Orlando.  The Covenant House was extremely grateful for all your support.  Saks Fifth Ave entertained with a fabulous Fashion Show.  Check out the photos in the EVENTS section!

You will also be receiving the March Minutes by email, as well as by regular mail.  This will be the last time that minutes will be mailed to your homes but they will continue to be e-mailed.

Save the date in your calendars for the Pan-American Family Picnic at Camp Ithiel, Gotha, on May 30th.  The Segarras and the Crespos are working hard on this activity.

Finally, while ruminating about our August Organization, I was thinking about what the PAN in PanAmerican means.  I searched and found the following:

A few days ago one of our public school teachers was giving a lesson in etymology to a second grade.  She asked the meaning of the word “pan”.  Several answers were hazarded, none quite correct.  The teacher explained it, then added: Now, remember, whenever you see “pan” prefixed to any word you may know it means “all”.

After illustrating by several examples, such as pantheon, pandemonium, etc., she called on her pupils to write, each for himself, an example.  There was much scratching of heads, knitting of brows, and other indicators of mental struggle, and at last a few hands were raised.

“Well, Tom, what is it?  What have you written?”

Tom arose and, glancing proudly around, read in a loud and resolute tone: “Pancake – all the cake!”
